After years of planning, construction, and patience from our communities, the newly widened stretch of SR 18 between I-90 and Deep Creek is now open, bringing smoother, safer travel for commuters, freight haulers, and families — now with two lanes in each direction!

This milestone marks major progress in the I-90/SR 18 Interchange Improvements project, which is designed to improve safety and traffic flow along one of our region’s busiest corridors. The newly opened lanes remove a long-standing bottleneck near Snoqualmie that caused heavy congestion and safety concerns for years.

The project also includes new four-lane bridges that improve fish passage along Lake Creek and Deep Creek, and a new bridge over Raging River. The diverging diamond interchange, which opened earlier this summer, is now fully integrated with the expanded roadway, and WSDOT will continue its monitoring work in the coming weeks and months.

While construction will continue into 2026 for final paving, landscaping, and finishing touches, this is a huge step forward for our region’s commuters, freight haulers, and families who rely on SR 18 every day.

We’re deeply grateful to the Washington State Department of Transportation, contractor crews, local governments, law enforcement, emergency services, and all the community members who have shown patience and partnership throughout this complex project.

We’re proud to see this progress benefiting our communities — and we’ll keep working to ensure East King County gets the safe, efficient infrastructure it deserves.

Sincerely,

Rep. Lisa Callan

Two lanes each way on SR 18 is a game-changer for that I-90 merge—finally no more white-knuckle weaving with semi trucks. I've been tracking the progress with https://muse-video.pro

Two lanes each way on SR 18 is a game-changer for getting through the Issaquah bottleneck. I've been tracking this project for years and the difference in traffic flow is already noticeable. https://3mf-to-stl.org
