Congratulations Outstanding Festival Volunteers
Congratulations to Ryan Bahm, Cory Wolfe and the Shockley family for their outstanding contributions to the
2003 Salmon Days Festival. Both Bahm and Wolfe were recognized as this year's Outstanding Festival Volunteers.
Bahm, a Refuse Ranger and as Garbage Czar David Bahm stated, "Czar in Training" (C.I.T.), dedicated more than
22 hours throughout the weekend to hauling trash and dumpster diving. Wolfe, a long-time Field of Fun volunteer
spent the entire weekend setting up, managing (this includes his famed role as story teller) and dismantling the
Nylon Zoo (a 60 foot inflatable fish) on the Field of Fun. Not only is Wolfe a volunteer at the Festival,
he is also a key contact at Boeing, spending time rallying his volunteers (the activity is solely run by
Boeing volunteers, the activity's ohfishal spawnsor) who give more than 145 hours over the two-day event.
The Shockley family is no stranger to Salmon Days and this year are the recipients of the Golden Zip Tie Award.
This honor recognizes outstanding Tech Team volunteers. On Friday, Sandy (a.k.a. Mom) spent the day canvassing
the Festival grounds, putting up banners, tents, sign extenders and more. On Sunday, Pat and daughters, Amanda and
Danielle spent the evening and well into the night, loading and hauling Festival supplies back to storage.
Congratulations to all for a job done extremely well!
We have a winner for the Washington Mutual Kids Drawing Contest!
The 2003 Washington Mutual Kids Drawing Contest was a huge success. A total of 78 entries were submitted by children
ages 6-14. This year's Grand Prize winner was 8 year-old Jake Mele from Bellevue, Washington.
Jake is no stranger to art. He and his sister Samantha Mele are the founders of
AnimaDoodle which specializes in note
cards and other items featuring Jake's original drawings. All of his drawings are real animals and according to Jake, the
weirder the animal the more he likes to draw it! Jake's drawing for the contest features an animated salmon jumping out
of the water with a second smaller salmon jumping in the background.
You'll find Jake and his drawings spawn-taneosly appearing all over Salmon Days this year. His drawing is featured on
a limited edition Kids T-shirt available for purchase during Salmon Days. You'll also see Jake in the Grande Parade on
Saturday, October 4 at 10am. He and Sam will accompany the Washington Mutual School Savings character Pixie the Pig.
And, if you still have not seen Jake and his incredible talent, stop by booth # 409 during the Festival. That's where
you will find Jake, a proud Salmon Days artist and his AnimaDoodle art!

age category (6-8, 9-11, 12-14) and they include: Eight year old Shannon Schneider of Issaquah, ten year old Emma
O'Melia of Issaquah and 12 year old Kyle Bichich also of Issaquah. All received Washington Mutual and Salmon Days
